Email Services:
As a company we really struggled with some tough decisions regarding our
email services and policies.
Email is now a commodity often freely available from Search Engines and a benefit
of traditional hosting packages.
This has led to a massive worldwide still growing increase in Spam. Spam is a disruptive
force for everyone today.
Email is generally now the most preferred method for spreading a virus, phishing,
and other security threats.
Some Statisics:
(Based on reports from our own mail customers.)
The average employee sends or receives around 200 emails a day.
Our average 100 employee company processes about 20,000 messages
a day. (not including
eCommerce)
Of those 20,000
Rejects = 12,000 (Did not match a valid account or were obvious spam)
Spam = 3,500 (Likely spam but the machine couldn't
be certain so they are held in Quarantine)
Legit = 3,500 (Legitimate Incoming messages)
Outgoing = 1,000 (Legitimate employee created outgoing messages)
As you can see Spam accounts for approximately 80% of all email.
After "Business Class" filtering the employee is left with around 40 legitimate
emails to deal with each day. (~20%)
We ultimately decided it is in the best interest of all our customers to offer only
robust "Business Class" email services. Therefore we have decided to partner
with a few key Companies to provide world
class email services.
What does all this mean for me as the customer?
- By allowing only mail filtered through one of our partners all customers benefit
from
maximum performance on their networks and ours.
- Archiving customers can rest assured the least amount of spam possible is stuck
in their archives.
